Since we had a packed show schedule while in Buenos Aires, I quickly became acquainted with the multiple Starbucks options in the area. So, enjoy the following "Starbucks tips" for show skaters who visit the infamous Luna Park!
WHAT'S OPEN ON SUN DA YS?
It wasn't fun to discover, on the morning of a 3-show Sunday, that nearly everything in Buenos Aires closes down on Sundays. The cafés, bodegas, cafeterias, and Starbucks near the venue are all closed, or only open later in the afternoon. After 11 consecutive shows and presentations, I wasn't happy to start a 3-show day sans a very large "to-go" coffee. However, after some desperate searching, I found one Starbucks that is open on Sunday morning and isn't too far from Luna Park! To get there from the venue: (1) head straight up Av. Corrientes from Luna Park, (2) turn left onto Florida (at the Burger King), (3) continue straight and you'll see Starbucks on your left, at the corner of Florida and Av. Rivadavia, where Florida becomes Perú. It's about a 15-minute walk from the venue. The map of this location is below.
WHERE ARE THE CLOSEST STA RBUCKS?
There are several Starbucks near Luna Park. The closest one is only about a 5-minute walk from the venue. However, it's not open on Sundays and was usually closed when walking home after our evening show. To get there from the venue: (1) head straight up Av. Corrientes from Luna Park, (2) turn left onto Reconquista, and you'll see Starbucks immediately on your left.
There's another one within a 5-minute walk of the venue, but the walk there will put you closer to the waterfront, which is not the safest area. This one is also closed on Sundays. To get there from the venue: (1) follow Bouchard straight past Plaza Roma (the park with the funky climbing tree) and you'll see Starbucks on your right after about 350-meters.
HOW DO I ORDER AN ICED COFFEE?
The first time I ordered an iced coffee at Starbucks, I asked for a "cafe frio Americano con crema." Yes, to everyone who speaks Spanish fluently, I ordered cold coffee with whipped cream on top. Haha! Here's how to properly order an iced coffee:
- "café helado americano con leche" = iced American coffee with milk
- "café helado americano con leche sin grasa" = iced American coffee with nonfat milk
- "café helado americano con leche y azúcar" = iced American coffee with milk and sugar
